DCN

HGNC ID: 2705

Target Abstract:

Decorin is a secreted proteoglycan rich in the leucine low molecular weight proteoglycan (SLRP) family. Decorin regulates the biological activity of extracellular collagen matrix and matrix related growth factors FGF, GDF-8/Myostatin, TGF-beta, and WISP-1. It also binds and activates EGF receptors, ErbB4, and IGF-1 receptors. Decorin promotes myoblast differentiation, supports angiogenesis, and inhibits tumor development. Research has shown that Decorin may have an inhibitory effect on the contraction of hypertrophic scars, indicating a certain role in preventing hypertrophic scar formation and promoting scar maturation.

Human DCN Predicted Functions

Enables RNA binding activity. Involved in positive regulation of autophagy. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including positive regulation of mitochondrial depolarization; positive regulation of mitochondrial fission; and regulation of signal transduction. Located in extracellular space. Colocalizes with collagen-containing extracellular matrix. Implicated in breast carcinoma; congenital stromal corneal dystrophy; and high grade glioma. Biomarker of gestational diabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Mouse Dcn Target Information

Mouse Dcn Predicted Functions

Enables extracellular matrix binding activity and glycosaminoglycan binding activity. Acts upstream of or within peptide cross-linking via chondroitin 4-sulfate glycosaminoglycan. Located in collagen-containing extracellular matrix. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; cardiovascular system; central nervous system; genitourinary system; and sensory organ. Used to study Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and congenital stromal corneal dystrophy. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in breast carcinoma; congenital stromal corneal dystrophy; and high grade glioma. Orthologous to human DCN (decorin).

Rat Dcn Target Information

Rat Dcn Predicted Functions

Enables collagen binding activity and protein N-terminus binding activity. Involved in several processes, including animal organ development; response to lipopolysaccharide; and wound healing. Located in extracellular matrix. Part of collagen type VI trimer. Biomarker of asthma; myocardial infarction; and obesity. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in breast carcinoma; congenital stromal corneal dystrophy; and high grade glioma. Orthologous to human DCN (decorin).
