HGNC ID: 1706
Target Abstract:
CD8, also known as T8 or Leu2, is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed on most thymocytes, peripheral blood T cell subsets, and NK cells (mainly as CD8α/α homodimers). CD8 serves as a T cell receptor that is restricted by MHC class I molecules in antigen recognition and T cell activation, and it also plays an important role in thymic differentiation.

Human CD8A Predicted Functions
Enables MHC class I protein complex binding activity. Predicted to be involved in T cell mediated immunity; cell surface receptor signaling pathway; and cytotoxic T cell differentiation. Predicted to act upstream of or within defense response to virus and positive regulation of calcium-mediated signaling. Located in external side of plasma membrane and plasma membrane raft. Biomarker of COVID-19; erythema multiforme; and stomach cancer.
