HGNC ID: 2665
Target Abstract:
CD55 is a 60-70kD glycated phosphatidylinositol (GPI) fixed single chain glycoprotein, also known as decay accelerating factor (DAF). It is expressed in hematopoietic cells, including red blood cells and many non hematopoietic cells. CD55 can reduce the efficiency of NK cell lysis and induce T cell signal transduction. CD55 has also been shown to interact with CD97 and bind to Coxsackie and reovirus.

Human CD55 Predicted Functions
Enables lipid binding activity and virus receptor activity. Involved in several processes, including positive regulation of CD4-positive, alpha-beta T cell proliferation; positive regulation of T cell cytokine production; and regulation of lipopolysaccharide-mediated signaling pathway. Acts upstream of or within regulation of complement activation and regulation of complement-dependent cytotoxicity. Located in cell surface; membrane raft; and plasma membrane. Implicated in prostate cancer and protein-losing enteropathy. Biomarker of breast cancer; cervical cancer; and endometrial adenocarcinoma.

Mouse Cd55 Predicted Functions
Predicted to enable enzyme inhibitor activity; lipid binding activity; and virus receptor activity. Acts upstream of or within regulation of complement activation, classical pathway. Located in external side of plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; integumental system; liver and biliary system; and nervous system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in prostate cancer and protein-losing enteropathy. Orthologous to human CD55 (CD55 molecule (Cromer blood group)).
