HGNC ID: 4187
Target Abstract:
Vitamin D binding protein (VitaminDBP), also known as GC (group specific component) globulin, belongs to the albumin gene family along with human serum albumin and alpha fetoprotein. It has multiple functions and exists on the surface of plasma, ascites, cerebrospinal fluid, and many types of cells. It binds to vitamin D and its metabolites, transporting them to target tissues. As a macrophage activating factor derived from Gc protein, VitaminDBP can be used for cancer treatment to activate macrophages to resist tumor cells.

Human GC Predicted Functions
Enables actin binding activity and calcidiol binding activity. Predicted to be involved in vitamin transport. Predicted to act upstream of or within vitamin D metabolic process. Located in blood microparticle and extracellular exosome. Implicated in several diseases, including autoimmune disease (multiple); chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; hepatocellular carcinoma; human immunodeficiency virus infectious disease; and rheumatic fever. Biomarker of several diseases, including autoimmune disease (multiple); dengue disease; diabetic retinopathy; hepatic encephalopathy; and sciatic neuropathy.
