DKK1

HGNC ID: 2891

Target Abstract:

Dickkopf related protein 1 (Dkk-1) is a secreted protein that contains two cysteine rich regions that participate in embryonic development by inhibiting the Wnt signaling pathway. All Dkk-1 knockout homozygous mice have died at birth due to defects in the structure of the skull and neural crest, such as the inability to develop the eyes, olfactory basal plate, frontal nose, mandible, etc., as well as incomplete development of the forebrain and midbrain, as well as toe to toe fusion of the forelimbs. The increased expression of Dkk-1 in bone marrow, plasma, and peripheral blood is associated with osteolytic lesions in patients with multiple myeloma.

Human DKK1 Predicted Functions

Enables co-receptor binding activity; low-density lipoprotein particle receptor binding activity; and receptor antagonist activity. Involved in several processes, including regulation of cell fate specification; regulation of gene expression; and regulation of protein phosphorylation. Located in extracellular space and plasma membrane. Implicated in anodontia.

Mouse Dkk1 Target Information

Mouse Dkk1 Predicted Functions

Predicted to enable co-receptor binding activity; low-density lipoprotein particle receptor binding activity; and receptor antagonist activity. Involved in several processes, including modulation of age-related behavioral decline; negative regulation of cellular component organization; and positive regulation of macromolecule metabolic process. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including Wnt signaling pathway involved in somitogenesis; embryonic morphogenesis; and negative regulation of signal transduction. Predicted to be located in extracellular region and plasma membrane. Predicted to be active in extracellular space. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; embryo mesenchyme; eye; genitourinary system; and nervous system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in anodontia. Orthologous to human DKK1 (dickkopf WNT signaling pathway inhibitor 1).
