SEMA4D

Target Abstract: Semaphorin 4D (SEMA4D, also known as CD100) is a member of the semaphorin protein family, which plays an important regulatory role in the migration and differentiation of various cells in the immune, vascular and nervous systems. The expression levels of VEGF and SEMA4D are positively correlated with the malignancy of ovarian cancer, and SEMA4D can serve as an independent prognostic indicator. It is the first semaphorin found to have immunomodulatory functions, playing key roles in T cell activation, antibody production and intercellular adhesion. The soluble fragment (sSEMA4D) formed by proteolytic cleavage of SEMA4D from the cell surface is believed to share similar immunomodulatory properties with its transmembrane form.

Human SEMA4D Predicted Functions

Enables identical protein binding activity; semaphorin receptor binding activity; and transmembrane signaling receptor activity. Involved in several processes, including positive regulation of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B signal transduction; regulation of neuron projection development; and regulation of primary metabolic process. Located in microtubule organizing center; nucleoplasm; and plasma membrane.

Mouse Sema4d Target Information

Mouse Sema4d Predicted Functions

Enables receptor ligand activity and semaphorin receptor binding activity. Involved in several processes, including negative regulation of osteoblast differentiation; positive regulation of Rho protein signal transduction; and positive regulation of inhibitory synapse assembly. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of axonogenesis. Located in extracellular space. Part of semaphorin receptor complex. Is active in GABA-ergic synapse. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; central nervous system; genitourinary system; hemolymphoid system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human SEMA4D (semaphorin 4D).
