IL1A

HGNC ID: 5991

Target Abstract:

Interleukin 1 (IL-1) is a 17 kDa extracellular polypeptide that is divided into two proteins, IL-1α and IL-1β.IL-1α is a pleiotropic cytokine, encoded in humans by the IL1A gene.IL-1α is produced primarily by activated macrophages, neutrophils, epithelial cells and endothelial cells. It has metabolic, physiological, and hematopoietic activities and plays a central role in the regulation of the immune response.IL-1α interacts with HAX1, NDN, but the synergistic interaction with TNF is the most clinically relevant. Both IL-1α and TNF are acute-phase cytokines with pro-febrile and inflammatory effects. People are currently evaluating whether IL-1α can be used as a marker for a potential therapeutic tumor in clinical trials. Blocking IL-1α activity has potential therapeutic effects on skin conditions such as acne.

Human IL1A Predicted Functions

Enables copper ion binding activity and cytokine activity. Involved in several processes, including positive regulation of interleukin-2 production; positive regulation of mitotic nuclear division; and response to copper ion. Located in cytosol and extracellular space. Implicated in several diseases, including Fabry disease; Schnitzler syndrome; autoimmune disease (multiple); hematologic cancer (multiple); and lung disease (multiple). Biomarker of several diseases, including autoimmune disease (multiple); cholesteatoma (multiple); common cold; cystic fibrosis; and osteoarthritis.

Mouse Il1a Target Information

Mouse Il1a Predicted Functions

Enables cytokine activity and interleukin-1 receptor binding activity. Involved in positive regulation of angiogenesis and positive regulation of vascular endothelial growth factor production. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cell surface receptor signaling pathway; connective tissue replacement involved in inflammatory response wound healing; and positive regulation of cytokine production. Located in cytoplasm and extracellular space. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; hemolymphoid system gland; reproductive system; and respiratory system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including Fabry disease; Schnitzler syndrome; autoimmune disease (multiple); hematologic cancer (multiple); and lung disease (multiple). Orthologous to human IL1A (interleukin 1 alpha).

Rat Il1a Target Information

Rat Il1a Predicted Functions

Involved in several processes, including keratinization; negative regulation of establishment of Sertoli cell barrier; and positive regulation of intracellular signal transduction. Located in several cellular components, including cell surface; cytosol; and extracellular space. Used to study interstitial lung disease. Biomarker of several diseases, including endometritis; lung disease (multiple); urinary tract infection; uveitis; and varicocele. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including Fabry disease; Schnitzler syndrome; autoimmune disease (multiple); hematologic cancer (multiple); and lung disease (multiple). Orthologous to human IL1A (interleukin 1 alpha).
