GZMB

HGNC ID: 4709

Target Abstract:

GranzymeB (GranzymeB) is a serine protease most commonly found in the granules of cytotoxic lymphocytes (CTLs) and natural killer cells (NK cells). GranzymeB secreted by these cells acts together with perforin to mediate apoptosis in target cells. Recently, it has been discovered that many non-cytotoxic cells, from basophils to mast cells to smooth muscle cells, also produce GranzymeB. GranzymeB is involved in the induction of inflammation by stimulating the release of cytokines, as well as in extracellular matrix remodeling. Elevated levels of GranzymeB have been associated with a number of autoimmune diseases, some skin conditions and type 1 diabetes.

Human GZMB Predicted Functions

Enables serine-type endopeptidase activity. Involved in several processes, including granzyme-mediated programmed cell death signaling pathway; natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity; and pyroptosis. Located in cytolytic granule. Biomarker of COVID-19; bronchiolitis obliterans; and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Mouse Gzme Target Information

Mouse Gzme Predicted Functions

Predicted to enable serine-type endopeptidase activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including granzyme-mediated programmed cell death signaling pathway; natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity; and pyroptosis. Predicted to act upstream of or within cytolysis. Predicted to be located in cytolytic granule. Predicted to be active in cytoplasm and intracellular membrane-bounded organelle. Is expressed in extraembryonic component; placenta; spongiotrophoblast; and trophoblast giant cell. Orthologous to human GZMB (granzyme B).
