ANPEP

HGNC ID: 500

Target Abstract:

CD13, also known as aminopeptidase N, is a member of the metalloproteinase membrane-associated proteins, type II. CD13 serves as a receptor for coronaviruses, which can cause respiratory diseases in humans and several animal species. As a zinc-binding metalloproteinase, CD13 plays a role in antigen expression on the cell surface by trimming N-terminal amino acids of MHC class II-bound peptides. CD13 is expressed in granulocytes, monocytes and their precursor cells, as well as in the majority of acute myeloid leukemias and a small fraction of acute lymphoblastic leukemias. In non-hematopoietic cells, CD13 expression is found in various cell types including epithelial cells, renal proximal tubules, intestinal brush border, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, brain cells, bone marrow, osteoclasts, and biliary epithelial cells.

Human ANPEP Predicted Functions

Predicted to enable metalloaminopeptidase activity; peptide binding activity; and zinc ion binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including peptide catabolic process; proteolysis; and regulation of blood pressure. Located in endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment; extracellular exosome; and plasma membrane. Biomarker of severe acute respiratory syndrome.

Mouse Anpep Predicted Functions

Predicted to enable metalloaminopeptidase activity; peptide binding activity; and zinc ion binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including negative regulation of renal sodium excretion; peptide catabolic process; and proteolysis. Predicted to act upstream of or within angiogenesis and cell differentiation. Located in external side of plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; metanephros; reproductive system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human ANPEP (alanyl aminopeptidase, membrane).
