CD69

HGNC ID: 1694

Target Abstract:

CD69 is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the C-type lectin receptor family and is also a member of the NK cell signaling gene complex family. It is the earliest surface antigen expressed after T lymphocyte activation. Once expressed, it serves as a co-stimulatory signal to promote further activation and proliferation of T cells. CD69 is also induced on NK cells, B cells, macrophages, neutrophils, and eosinophils. Activated T cells expressing CD69 are mainly CD8+CD45RO+ and are primarily induced by IL-15 and contact with activated endothelium expressing ICAM-1. The expression of CD69 on activated T cells rapidly decreases when the exogenous stimulus disappears. Therefore, the level of CD69 expression on lymphocytes exposed to antigen stimulation can reflect the degree of cellular response to that antigen.
