Target Abstract:
CD223, also known as lymphocyte activation gene-3 (LAG-3), is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of molecules with inhibitory effects on lymphocytes.LAG-3 molecules are closely related to CD4 molecules, and the genes for both molecules are localized at the end of the short arm of chromosome 12.LAG-3 molecules are expressed on the surfaces of activated NK cells and T lymphocytes. LAG-3 molecules are mainly expressed on the surface of activated NK cells and T lymphocytes, and bind with high affinity to MHC II.

Human LAG3 Predicted Functions
Enables MHC class II protein binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including cell surface receptor signaling pathway; negative regulation of regulatory T cell differentiation; and plasmacytoid dendritic cell activation. Predicted to act upstream of or within negative regulation of T cell activation; negative regulation of interleukin-2 production; and positive regulation of natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity. Predicted to be located in extracellular region.

Mouse Lag3 Predicted Functions
Enables MHC class II protein binding activity and transmembrane signaling receptor activity. Involved in negative regulation of regulatory T cell differentiation; plasmacytoid dendritic cell activation; and regulation of immune response. Acts upstream of or within cell surface receptor signaling pathway; negative regulation of interleukin-2 production; and positive regulation of natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity. Located in external side of plasma membrane and extracellular region. Orthologous to human LAG3 (lymphocyte activating 3).
