Assay PrincipleThis assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. A monoclonal antibody specific for human Amphiregulin has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standard, samples and biotin-linked detect antibody specific for Amphiregulin are pipetted into the wells and Amphiregulin present is bound by the immobilized antibody and detect antibody following incubation. After washing away any unbound substances, streptavidin-HRP is added. After washing, substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Amphiregulin bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

Human AREG Predicted Functions

Enables receptor ligand activity and transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine kinase activator activity. Involved in ERBB2-EGFR signaling pathway; G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway; and positive regulation of cell population proliferation. Located in cell surface. Is active in extracellular space. Implicated in breast cancer. Biomarker of ductal carcinoma in situ; invasive ductal carcinoma; prostate carcinoma in situ; transitional cell carcinoma; and urinary bladder cancer.

Mouse Areg Target Information

Mouse Areg Predicted Functions

Enables receptor ligand activity and transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine kinase activator activity. Involved in epidermal growth factor receptor signaling pathway. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including mammary gland development; positive regulation of peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation; and response to estradiol. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is active in extracellular space. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; heart; lung; metanephros; and submandibular gland primordium. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in breast cancer. Orthologous to human AREG (amphiregulin).

Rat Areg Target Information

Rat Areg Predicted Functions

Enables epidermal growth factor receptor binding activity and growth factor activity. Involved in several processes, including negative regulation of osteoblast differentiation; neurogenesis; and response to hydrogen peroxide. Located in extracellular space. Used to study high grade glioma. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in breast cancer. Orthologous to human AREG (amphiregulin).
